Supers – A topical tip courtesy of Helen Hadley

Have you ever added a super of foundation to a fairly full brood box, only for the bees to ignore it ...... well I have!

I usually have added the Queen excluder at the same time, but Helen has advised me that the young bees needed to draw the comb do not like to move up through the Queen excluder, so it's better to not add the Queen excluder until the bees have started drawing out the foundation.

This was a new one to me (must have been asleep for that part of the courses), but as all Helen's advice is excellent I'm giving it a try!
